Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has assumed control of the ministry’s affairs following the suspension of Minister Betta Edu. This move aligns with the directive issued by President Bola Tinubu, who suspended Edu on Monday, citing her alleged involvement in a N585 million fraud.

The accusations against Minister Edu involve the alleged transfer of public funds into private accounts. President Tinubu’s directive, delivered through his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, instructed the suspended minister to “hand over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.”

According to sources, Enitan officially took charge after receiving a letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday night.

Ngelale’s statement outlined the President’s instructions for Edu to fully cooperate with investigating authorities during their inquiry.

Also, a panel, led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of social investment programs.

The aim is to reform relevant institutions and programs to eliminate institutional frailties and restore public confidence in the initiative.
