Pro-Biafran agitator, Simon Ekpa, who was arrested in Finland in late 2024 over allegations of terrorism-related activities, is scheduled to appear before a Finnish court in June 2025.

Ekpa, a key figure in the Biafra secessionist movement and self-styled “Prime Minister” of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, faces serious charges including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.

IDOMA VOICE recalls that Finnish authorities confirmed his arrest in November 2024, along with four other individuals, for suspected involvement in terror-related activities.

Finnish police allege that Ekpa used social media platforms to incite violence, particularly targeting civilians and security forces in Nigeria’s South-East region.

Reports from Finnish news outlet Yle state that the Päijät-Häme District Court has remanded Ekpa in custody on charges of public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent.

In addition to legal proceedings, Ekpa has been hit with financial sanctions by Finnish authorities. His assets and economic resources have been frozen, alongside those of 16 other individuals linked to the case.

Initially represented by Ilkka Kopra, Ekpa now has a new lawyer, Kaarle Gummerus, who confirmed that he has received the pre-trial case file and is preparing for the court hearing scheduled for June.

Speaking to BBC Pidgin, Gummerus stated:

“We’ve received the pre-trial file and will review it to decide the next steps. The court date is set for June 2025.”
