President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday said he would not release leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
The president, in an interview with Channels Television, said he would not interfere with the work of the judiciary.
Buhari had told Southeast elders who visited him sometimes ago that he would consider releasing Kanu.
But when asked about update on Kanu during the interview, Buhari said the judiciary is one institution he would not interfere with.
Buhari said when Kanu was in Europe and abusing the Nigerian government, he never knew the consequence.
He said the government is giving him the opportunity for him to defend himself now and not to abuse government outside the country.
Buhari said emphatically, “we will not release him.”
But the president said there is however a possibility for political solution if IPOB members behaved properly.
”There is a possibility of political solution if they behave. You cannot go out and abuse us overseas, let him account for what he has done,” he said.
