Biden campaign criticizes Speaker Johnson for views on same-sex relations

The Biden campaign criticizes new House Speaker Mike Johnson for views on “same-sex relations” while overlooking President Biden’s own history on the topic.

The Biden-Harris presidential campaign, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), highlights Mike Johnson’s past statements on criminalizing gay sex and calling same-sex relations “inherently unnatural.” Johnson had also criticized courts for protecting the right to privacy.

The post linked to a CNN article titled “New speaker of the House Mike Johnson once wrote in support of the criminalization of gay sex,” emphasizing Johnson’s history of strong anti-gay language.

However, it’s worth noting that President Biden himself had a history of statements against gay marriage during his time in public office. In 1973, Biden suggested that homosexuals were “security risks.” He voted in favor of an amendment in 1993 that prohibited the immigration of HIV-positive individuals and supported the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in 1994, which prevented gay Americans from serving in the military.

Furthermore, in 1996, Biden voted for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), defining marriage as between one man and one woman. He maintained opposition to gay marriage during the 2008 presidential campaign.

Despite his past comments, Biden has claimed to be a pioneer in supporting same-sex marriage, but other leaders had already done so, including Dick Cheney and Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

In response, Mike Johnson expressed his respect for the rule of law and his love for all people, regardless of their lifestyle choices. The Biden campaign did not provide immediate comment to Fox News Digital’s request.
