U.S. President Joe Biden has responded to the defeat of his Vice President, Kamala Harris, in the 2024 presidential election.
In a statement shared on X shortly after Donald Trump’s victory was confirmed, Biden expressed his admiration for Harris, saying, “What America saw today was the Kamala Harris I know and deeply admire.”
Biden described Harris as a “tremendous partner and public servant full of integrity, courage, and character.” He added, “Under extraordinary circumstances, she stepped up and led a historic campaign that showed what’s possible when guided by a strong moral compass and a clear vision for a nation that is more free, more just, and full of opportunity for all Americans.”
Reflecting on his 2020 decision to select Harris as his running mate, Biden said, “As I’ve said before, selecting Kamala was the very first decision I made when I became the nominee for president. It was the best decision I made. Her story represents the best of America’s story.”
Biden continued, “As she made clear today, I have no doubt she’ll continue writing that story. She will continue the fight with purpose, determination, and joy. She will remain a champion for all Americans and will be a leader our children will look up to for generations as she shapes America’s future.”
In a separate development, President Biden has officially acknowledged Donald Trump as the winner of the 2024 election. According to the Associated Press, Biden called Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on his victory and invited him to the White House.
