In recent times, a bizarre and alarming trend has gripped the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, and several states in the country – the alleged theft of male genital organs. The wave of fear and panic has escalated due to the rise in reported cases of manhood disappearance, leaving communities in the North Central, notably Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and the nation’s capital, on edge.
Victims and their communities are grappling with the fear and uncertainty surrounding this heinous crime. Some instances have tragically resulted in mob violence, leading to the murder of individuals suspected of being involved in these mysterious disappearances.
While the mechanics of these crimes remain unclear, varying accounts of how they are perpetrated have emerged. Some claim that a mere conversation with the alleged thief can cause the victim’s penis to vanish, while others suggest it occurs after physical contact, including a simple handshake.
The Nasarawa State Police Command, after cautioning against vigilante justice, clarified that medical examinations on alleged victims yielded no evidence of such disappearances. Nevertheless, the panic persists, with various instances recorded in both the city center and satellite towns.
However, amidst the rising concerns, some security experts have shed light on a possible ulterior motive behind these allegations. They suggest that criminal elements are orchestrating false alarms to create chaos and confusion in crowded places, providing a cover for other thefts such as mobile phones, bags, and cars.
Medical experts dismiss these claims, emphasizing that manhood disappearance is scientifically impossible. They attribute the allegations to superstition and African folklore, highlighting that legitimate medical conditions can cause a reduction in penis size, but not a complete disappearance.
The FCT Commissioner of Police has issued warnings against spreading false information about alleged organ disappearances, underscoring how such rumors fuel public anxiety and disrupt peace in the region.
