DIG Joseph Egbunike biography is incomplete without mentioning that he holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Accounting degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons. ), B.L., a Masters in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD), and a PhD in Criminology.

He has put in 33 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force and is currently the Deputy Inspector General of Police.

During his National Youth Service Corps, Joseph worked as an Account Bills Officer in the Group Accounts Division at NNPC Headquarters in Falomo (NYSC).

He was also rumoured to have resigned moments after the INGEPOL, Usman Alkali Baba pulled him out as supervising DIG coordinating the last Anambra election.
