BIRS chairman Andrew Ayabam escapes attack by illegal tax point operators

The Executive Chairman Benue Internal Revenue Service -BIRS today narrowly escaped an attack by illegal tax point operators in Makurdi.

The attack occurred at a habitual check point at Agan toll gate North Bank where the illegal operators constantly mount road blocks to exploit commuters.

The Chairman who ran into the operators that had arrested a truck in the bid to exploit it, accosted the criminals and released the truck.

However, the illegal tax Operators retaliated by launching an attack on the Chairman and his entourage propelling missiles at him and his cars.

Although no life was lost the vehicles on the convoy sustained considerable damage.

The matter has since been lodged at the Zone C police station North Bank.

It is worthy to inform here that the said check point has defied all attempts to dislodge it as after several arrests of its operators, there surfaced new operators.
