BIRS To Relocate To Permanent Site in 6 Weeks

The Benue State Interal Revenue Service (BIRS), will relocate to its permanent Head office complex in six weeks time.

This was made known by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom today when he visited the site of the Permanent Headquarters to inspect the ongoing reconstruction.

The governor who had earlier visited the site for the construction of the office complex meant to house the Benue Geographical Information System (BENGIS), commended the spate of the job and expressed optimism that the job will be completed on schedule.

Speaking during the inspection, the governor who commended BIRS for living up to its responsibility, said he decided to embark on the inspection of the two sites owing to their importance in the raising of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He noted that with the synergy between the Ministry of Lands and Survey and BIRS, the issue of staggered processing of Certificates Of Occupancy will be a thing of the past.

While fielding questions from journalists, Gov. Ortom reiterated his commitment to the fight against illegal tax activity. He said the state is determined to make away with all illegal tax activity, which is why he recently inaugurated a committee and donated operational vehicles for the purpose.

While commending BIRS for its performance he also informed that with the expected perormance of the service the state was expecting to hit a target of 18 Billion Naira per annum even as it generates between 800 and 700 milion Naira monthly at the moment.
