It is no longer news that there have been renewed attacks by the killer Fulani Herdsmen on some Tiv villages in Makurdi and Guma Local Governments Areas of Benue State.
The most provoking part of this attacks is that it is coming at a time when the people of the State and other parts of the World are on a lockdown due to the current pandemic caused by the dreaded Covid 19 virus.
It’s also disheartening that the attacks are coming at a time when the communities who are purely farmers are preparing for the new farming Season.
Some of the villages affected by the recent Herdsmen attacks in Guma local government includes:
Tse Tyohembe, Tse Chongu Gugor, Tse Vambe and Tse Yav, Tse Idyu, Tse Akuji, Tse Ankyegh, Tse Atawa, Zaki Usua Village, Tse Nongu Tako and Aliegba in Mbagwa kindred.
Tse Apav, kyoribo village, Tse Unande, Tse Abaar, Tse Anbum, Tse Gbande Gbeh, Tse Ayev, Tse Agashi, Avihi village, Tse Usase, Tse Zayol, Tse kyagh, Kyiu-kyu village, Tse Abeegu, Tse Ali, Tse Iorabena, Zaki Chado Village, Tse Tseyua, Igbe village, Tse Nyam Gbinde, Tse Menme, Tse Gbegba, and kpom Udota in Mbanyiar kindred.
Tse Tugudu, Tse Ukorigba, Hur village, Tse Agena, Tse Anagu, Tse Tyondu, Tse Utim, Tse Gudu, Tse Begha, Tse Zer, Tse Tsav and Abahwange village in Mbashange Kindred all in Guma LGA.
Communities recently attacked by the killer Herdsmen in Makurdi LGA include:
Tse Vue, Imande Akpur, Tse Ajir , Tse Orowa, Tse Adee, Tse Dei, Tse Ankyegh, Tse Agbergbar, all in Mbayongu , Agan Council Ward, Makurdi Local Government.
According to an eye witness report, the attackers comes both in the night and day time to attack and burn down Houses and economic trees after which they come with large number of cattle and destroys farm lands and properties worth billions of Naira, sighting an example where the killer herdsmen stormed Tse Idyu On the 14th of March 2020 shooting sporadically and killed a young man by named Mr. Tsukwa Amine. “These wicked herdsmen also attacked Tse Vambe in Mbagwa kindred and killed one Mr. Ortai Nyitar on the 20th of March 2020”, he continued.
He further said that, the Fulani Herdsmen are usually seeing moving freely with sophisticated Weapons, raping local farmer’s wives and children.
Further investigation also revealed that, the renewed attacks by the Herders also forced many villagers to desert their villages and are taking refuge in some of the IDPs in Makurdi and Guma.
Inview of the above, farmers from the affected Communities are calling on the relevant authorities to come to their aid by stationing Security men at some flash points which include: Gbajimba- Makurdi axis, Daudu-Gbajimba axis, Origbo-Imande Akpu axis to enable them go back to their villages and prepare for the coming farming season.
