Gunmen ended the lives of five persons at the Abaji Market in Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State on Thursday.
Many persons sustained life-threatening injuries in the violent attack.
The attack came barely three weeks after some gunmen invaded Zaki Biam community in Ukum Local Government Area of the state where about 52 persons were killed.
Katsina Ala and Ukum local government areas have witnessed violent attacks recently.
The Abaji Market is one of the major markets in Katsina-Ala.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the market in a Toyota car, got down from the car and opened fire on the people.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that some unidentified persons had on Wednesday set several houses in the community ablaze and escaped.
The source said, “Some unidentified persons had, on the eve of the market day (Wednesday), sneaked into our village, set some houses ablaze and ran away, leaving many inhabitants in shock.”
