Military forces conducted a raid on Igbomotoru 1 & 2 communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Sunday, following the killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State last Thursday.
According to reports from DAILY POST, numerous youths from the community who attempted to resist the deployed troops were allegedly killed in the confrontation.
Witnesses stated that heavily armed soldiers, stationed with gunboats at the communities’ jetty, sealed off the area, restricting entry and exit.
The invasion, as per a community insider, appears to be a response to the recent attacks on military personnel in neighboring Delta communities.
The source lamented the pervasive fear among residents, highlighting the inability to conduct daily activities, including trading, due to the military presence. The situation has escalated with reports of attacks and destruction of homes in Igbomotoru 2.
