Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has reacted to the attack on an IDPs Camp in Makurdi, on Tuesday.
The governor who visited the IDPs camp to assessed the level of damages, said it is regrettable that Fulani herdsmen have killed over 70 people in Makurdi local area alone in the space of two weeks.
He asserted that the leadership of the Fulanis held a meeting in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, and vowed that they would continue to spill blood in Benue until the anti-open grazing law is reversed.
Ortom called on the federal government to arrest the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
He declared that if President Muhammadu Buhari continue to fail to live up to his duties as the command-in-chief, the people would be forced to resolve to self help.
“My heart bleeds. President Buhari must arise to his responsibilities as the command-in-chief of the armed forces.
If he doesn’t do it, our people said that the goat doesn’t bite but when you push it to the wall, it would bite,” Ortom said.
“This is too sad, Buhari can not be playing us around because these are Fulani men doing the same thing.
As I said they want to take over our land. If not want is the essence?
You would send people away from their farms, and here they are in IDPs camp and you come kill them. What place do you want them to stay?
Buhari if you were the governor of Benue state, what do you want me to say? You must arise.
They are you’d kinsmen, call them, and tell them that enough is enough.
They are taking us for granted too far, and this would not be accepted.
I know the application of telling people to go on self help, and I want to repeat my call, that if you are serious in this security matter, Mr President, allow us to buy AK-47s.”
