The Union Bank Michika branch in Adamawa State was attacked and raided in a suspected Boko Haram insurgency on Monday night.
Although no casualty has been reported, many people scampered into the bushes last night as a result of the attack.
The Nigerian Army on Tuesday issued a statement saying the Boko Haram elements were repelled on Monday night.
In a statement signed by Col Sagir Musa, acting army Public Relations, Director said they repelled a BHT attack on Michika in Adamawa state.
The army went further to say that the insurgents met their Waterloo and suffered heavy when they attempted to infiltrate Michika in Adamawa state.
The Nigerian Army said gallant troops of 115 task force battalion deployed at Lassa in Borno State received a distress call from vigilantes at Maikadiri village on the movement of suspected BHTS along road Maikadiri – Shuwari Enroute Michika.
The troops immediately organized blocking positions and swooped on the terrorists which led to exchange of fire. The terrorists attempted to escape but were intercepted and suppressed with a heavy volume of fire.
The Nigerian army said reinforcement from 143 battalion Gulak engaged the terrorists on two fronts coordinated attacks. The BHTS were completely routed by the troops, neutralizing many of them while others fled in disarray due to superior firepower.
The military also said the insurgents hastily evacuated most of their corpses under the cover of darkness. “The entire area has been dominated by troops and the situation is completely under control. Items captured from the terrorists include one ford vehicle, two Toyota starlet vehicles loaded with foodstuff, one motorcycle and one tire inflating machine”.
The army said calm has since returned to the city and inhabitants of the town have been enjoined to report the presence of strange faces in their localities and go about their normal businesses.
However, residents of Michika who returned met an entirely demolished Union Bank while their foodstuff was also been carted away
