On Tuesday, a mass burial was held for fifteen victims of a suspected herdsmen attack in Mbakor and Mbolom, located in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed his determination to ensure that such tragic incidents do not occur again during his tenure, as he vowed to take decisive action.
Represented by his Deputy, Sam Ode, at the funeral, the Governor urged residents of the community to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding themselves against future threats.
During the ceremony, President General of the Masev Development Association, Professor Vitalis Tarhule, appealed to the government to provide the community with the necessary protection. He emphasized that the primary reason they elected officials into office was to ensure the safety and security of the people.
Tarhule highlighted the repeated attacks on their community by armed herdsmen, noting that this recent incident marked the third occurrence, following previous attacks in 2014 and 2018. He called on the government to establish a dedicated security outfit in the community to effectively counter such assaults and prevent further loss of life.
