BREAKING: Abducted UniAbuja staff, children regain freedom

Six staff of the University of Abuja and their children who were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Tuesday morning have regained freedom after their abduction.
According to sources, the staff were said to be rescued by security operatives in the early hours of Wednesday.

However, details of the rescue operation were sketchy, but the report had it that the abductors abandoned the victims and fled after they were confronted with superior firepower.

The sources gave credit to the bravery of security operatives and the university security staff who chased the abductors to Kwali area where they engaged them in a gun battle.

IDOMA VOICE recalls that the University, in a statement on Tuesday signed by its spokesman, Habib Yakoob, said that the gunmen abducted a Professor of Economics in the institution, Joseph Obansa, alongside his two children.

He said the gunmen gained access to the Senior Staff Quarters at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the early hours of Tuesday.

Yakoob stated that the gunmen operated undisturbed for over an hour, adding that security agents were deployed to track down the criminals.

The school spokesman disclosed that apart from the professor and his children, three persons were also kidnapped.

“Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today,” Yakoob had said.
