The Abia State Government has made a concerning discovery of more than 50 decomposed bodies, in addition to over 20 headless bodies and numerous human skeletons in the vicinity of the Lokpanta Cattle Market, situated in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, revealed this distressing information during his monthly media interaction known as “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” which took place at the Government House in Umuahia on Monday.
Governor Otti expressed a firm commitment to addressing the security challenges with unwavering determination, regardless of whose interests may be affected. He explained that the prevalence of prostitution, illicit narcotics trade, and other criminal activities around the Lokpanta Cattle Market had necessitated the recent intervention in the form of a market raid. As a result, certain brothels have been dismantled, leading to a noticeable improvement in the peace and order within Umunneochi.
The Governor also asserted that the Lokpanta market will transition into a daily market, operating from 6 am to 6 pm, catering to the needs of both cattle dealers and various other businesses. The market’s entire premises are being secured through the construction of a fence to enhance safety.
Governor Otti emphasized that the Lokpanta region had gained notoriety for incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery. Hence, the decision by his administration to shift to daily market operations as a proactive measure.
He clarified that, although the policy initially faced some resistance, subsequent discussions with the market’s leadership led to a consensus regarding the government’s vision for a daily market operation, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders.
Furthermore, Governor Otti affirmed the administration’s unwavering dedication to eradicating insecurity in Abia State. Recognizing that security is a fundamental prerequisite for governance, he outlined plans to deploy advanced security equipment at strategic locations to safeguard lives and property within the state.
He reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Abians can enjoy a safe and prosperous Christmas this year, making it clear that the government would not support or tolerate any form of insecurity. As part of this effort, state-of-the-art security devices will be strategically positioned to enhance overall safety and protection.
