The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed Governor Alex Otti’s election as the duly elected governor of Abia State.
Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, delivering the judgment, dismissed the appeal lodged against Otti’s victory, asserting that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) appeal lacked merit.
The appeals challenging Otti’s election were brought by Chief Okey Ahiwe of the PDP and Chief Ikechi Emenike of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Otti, who secured victory on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), faced challenges from both parties following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration that he polled 175,466 votes, defeating his closest rival.With the Supreme Court’s verdict, Governor Alex Otti’s election victory stands affirmed, bringing an end to the legal challenges against his mandate.
