Afenifere Leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo Dies At 96

Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a prominent leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, has passed away at the age of 96.

The family confirmed his death in a statement, revealing that he died peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 14, 2025, at his Lekki residence in Lagos.

The statement reads: “With a heart full of gratitude for a selfless life spent in the service of God, the nation, and humanity, we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo. He died peacefully at his Lagos home today.”

Adebanjo, a distinguished lawyer, nationalist, and apostle of true federalism, was a former organizing secretary of the Action Group and the national leader of Afenifere. He is survived by his wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family expressed their deep admiration for his lifelong dedication to justice, equity, and his struggle for a progressive Nigeria.

Funeral arrangements will be announced soon as the family consults with friends, associates, and interest groups. A condolence register is open at his Lagos residence and country home in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.
