BREAKING: Akpabio asked to step down as Nigerian Senate President

Supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, joined by civil society groups, gathered at the entrance of the National Assembly on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio pending an investigation into allegations against him.

The protesters arrived as early as 8 a.m., ahead of the plenary session, holding banners with messages such as “Akpabio Must Go” and “Protect Women’s Rights.”

Their demonstration follows allegations by Akpoti-Uduaghan, who, during a live television interview last week, accused Akpabio of victimizing her after she rejected his alleged sexual advances.

The controversy arose from a dispute over a Senate seating arrangement change on February 20, which escalated tensions within the chamber.
