Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has declared a 24-hour curfew in Ukum Local Government Area, effective from 3 pm on Wednesday.
This announcement was made in a statement by Solomon Iorpev, the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication.
The curfew was imposed due to the severe security situation in the region, which has resulted in significant property destruction and instability.
According to the statement, “The governor, through his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, has directed that beginning today, 3rd July 2024, a curfew will be imposed on Ukum Local Government and surrounding areas from 3 pm today to 3 pm tomorrow, 4th July 2024. Following this, the curfew will be enforced from 6 pm to 6 am daily until further notice.”
The Governor has urged calm, assuring residents that security operatives have been deployed in large numbers to maintain peace in Ukum and the wider Sankera region.
