Renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, has disclosed that three prominent figures from the 2023 presidential elections – Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi from the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) – have joined forces to establish a formidable political entity. The primary objective is to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections.
In an exclusive interview with Channels TV, Professor Utomi, a staunch supporter of Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential race, affirmed the collaborative efforts among the trio. He emphasized the need for leaders who are willing to make sacrifices for the nation’s development.
“We need people who sacrifice themselves to build a great country with the possible reward of immortality,” Professor Utomi remarked. He detailed discussions held with Atiku Abubakar, Engineer Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Peter Gregory Obi, among others, during their travels. The objective is to establish a mega party that prioritizes national development and addresses the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.
Highlighting the essence of the initiative, Professor Utomi stated, “It’s not about you. It’s about Nigeria, it’s about the ordinary person in this state. It’s about genuinely moving from this business of sharing trickles from oil sales to how we can become one of the most productive economies because our (natural) endowments allow that. Still, our politics has not allowed Nigerian people to produce.”
However, the professor did not reveal the name of the newly-formed political party, keeping the anticipation alive for the official unveiling in the near future.
