The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has died after collapsing unexpectedly in his office on Thursday.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Ewhrudjakpo slumped during official duties and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

Family sources confirmed that he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m., triggering a swift emergency response from staff and security aides. Eyewitnesses said the deputy governor was in critical condition as he was hurried into the emergency unit.

A source close to the late deputy governor suggested that his sudden collapse might be connected to the intense demands of his workload. Although the exact cause of death has not yet been formally disclosed, multiple sources hinted at a possible cardiac-related complication.

Security operatives have taken control of the hospital environment, restricting access as senior government officials continue to arrive to express concern and solidarity.

Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful as of press time.
