BREAKING: Benue youths dare Gov Alia, stage protest over herdsmen attacks

Hundreds of angry Benue youths on Sunday staged a massive protest, barricading major roads to express outrage over the continued killings in the state by suspected herdsmen, defying a statewide ban on protests and public gatherings, IDOMA VOICE observed.
The demonstrators, mostly dressed in black and wielding palm fronds and placards, blocked major roads.
The protest comes barely 24 hours after suspected armed herdsmen attacked Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, leaving over 200 people dead, including women, children, and security personnel.
Despite an earlier warning by the Benue State Government, led by Governor Hyacinth Alia, against any form of public protest amid rising tension, the youths defied the directive, saying they could no longer remain silent in the face of what they described as “government negligence and complicity.”
Placards carried by the demonstrators read:
“Alia, Wake Up and Lead”
“Benue Is Bleeding”
“200 Dead and You Say Don’t Protest?”
“This Is Not Leadership, This Is Abandonment”
The protest caused panic among commuters, many of whom were forced to turn back or wait helplessly as the highway remained inaccessible for hours.
