Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has declared that the Monday sit-at-home protest is no longer in effect. He made this statement while urging people in the Southeast region of Nigeria to welcome the cancellation of the sit-at-home order. The sit-at-home order was initially initiated by IPOB to push for Kanu’s release, but it was later hijacked by criminal elements who used the measure to cause havoc and disrupt normal activities in the region.
To address the negative impact of the sit-at-home order and find a more constructive approach, Kanu has canceled the initiative and replaced it with “Economic Empowerment Day” (EED). Through his lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu called on the residents of the Southeast to be cautious of those using his name to deceive and defraud people.
Ejiofor’s statement emphasized that Kanu has spoken clearly about the cancellation of the sit-at-home order, and the people are advised to carefully assess the immense damages caused by the previous measures. He urged the residents to reject the dangerous tendencies of criminal elements who exploit the revered name of Kanu to deceive the unsuspecting and vulnerable.
Ejiofor also pointed out that previous claims made in Kanu’s name, such as warships being deployed or a phantom two weeks sit-at-home palliative, were false and manipulative attempts to take advantage of the people’s love for Biafra and their respect for Kanu.
The statement further called on Biafrans to use their wisdom to resist manipulation and be cautious of fraudulent schemes that undermine the region’s progress and unity. With the sit-at-home order now canceled, Kanu and IPOB are urging the people to focus on positive actions, such as economic empowerment, to advance their cause.
