The Bill seeking the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, FUHSO, being sponsored by Distinguished Senator Abba Patrick Moro, has been passed into law by the Senate. The Bill was passed into law during Tuesday plenary.
The Bill passed First and Second Readings on 26th November, 2019, and 18th February, 2020 respectively and referred to the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary & Tertiary).
In his lead debate during the Second Reading, Senator Moro had appealed to his colleagues to give the Bill an accelerated hearing, considering the importance of the School to Benue South and Nigeria at large.
The Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary), headed by Senator Oloriegbe Yahaya Ibrahim, held a Public Hearing on the Bill on 1st February, 2021, where stakeholders unanimously supported the establishment of the School.
Submitting it’s report on Tuesday during plenary, Senator Oloriegbe said his Committee did a thorough job on the Bill and requested his colleagues to pass it into law. The Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, thanked the Committee for a job well done, and when he put the questions for the clauses in the Bill, the answers were in unison, in favor of the clauses, viz a viz the establishment of the School.
By this passage by the Senate, the Bill shall now be transmitted to the President for his assent, for the conclusion of the process.
