An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, the spiritual leader of I Reign Christian Ministry in Lagos, to life imprisonment for raping his 23-year-old assistant.
The court, presided over by Justice Rahman Oshodi, also handed down a three-year prison term for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church.
Justice Oshodi, declaring that the prosecution successfully established the elements of the two offenses, condemned Daniels for his lack of regard for the truth, branding him a liar.
The judge directed that the cleric would spend the remainder of his life at the Kirikiri custodial facility in Lagos.
While the bishop was acquitted on count two, involving the rape of another church member, Justice Oshodi noted that there was an element of consent in that case.
Daniels was discharged and acquitted on count four, which accused him of attempting to rape another church member.
The charges against Daniels, who faced an amended four-count charge, included rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.
The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, with rape violating Section 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
