Barring any unforeseen circumstance, Owukpa community is about to witness what would be described as a mother of all protest against the leadership of the Owukpa Development Association and coal miners.
This development came following the arrest and detention of some activists who came out to draw the attention of the world to the environmental degradation in Ibagba community resulting from the activities of miners in the area through a world press conference.
Several reports have emerged that the money so far realised from coal mining in Owukpa has not been accounted for by those in charge.
This formed the decision of the youths to address the press.
Apparently not comfortable with the move to inform the press about the activities of the miners in Owukpa, the leadership of ODA teamed up with the police to foil the press conference and subsequently order the arrest of the activists led by one Okwori Onaji.
Onaji has been in the police custody for more than 48 hours without being charged to court.
Irked over the development, some aggrieved youths under the aegis of Concerned Owukpa Youths have vowed to invite ekwuanya to expose those embezzling money meant for the development of Owukpa from coal.
Ekwuanya god is administered by women and it is regarded as the most dangerous and feared deity in the land.
The group has concluded plans to invite the chief priestess in charge of the god to move around the four major markets in Owukpa to lay a curse on anyone behind the shady deal.
Agene James, Secretary of the group in a statement warned that anyone who has eaten a dime from the proceeds of coal should return before the next Ukwo market.
They are also planning to stage a mother of all protest since it is now obvious that ODA leadership is trying to suppress the truth.
“We give ODA and its leadership just five days to come out and account for every kobo realized from the coal or else, we would invite ekwuanya to settle matter,” Agene said in a statement.
The group also called for the dissolution of the current leadership of ODA led by Elder Mathais Abutu and Owukpa Youth under the leadership of one Gabriel Igah Sambo over this gross failure and lack of trust.
