BREAKING: Court denies Nnamdi Kanu bail

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), faced another denial of bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja during the latest hearing on Tuesday.

Despite this, the court decreed an expedited hearing for Kanu’s case, which involves charges related to treasonable felony.

Kanu, who has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since his June 2021 arrest, was present in court.

In her ruling, Justice Nyako emphasized the acceleration of proceedings and instructed the prosecution to present its first witness.

Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s counsel, voiced dissatisfaction with the decision, citing the inability of Kanu’s legal team to communicate freely with their client due to DSS monitoring. Additionally, Ejimakor highlighted Kanu’s unchanged attire, despite a previous court order.

He alleged mistreatment of Kanu, arguing that it violated the Nigerian Constitution. Expressing the legal team’s discontent, Ejimakor requested a brief adjournment to confer with Kanu, a request the court granted.
