A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the N10 billion damages suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The court, in its ruling delivered on Wednesday, dismissed the suit for lack of merit.

Emeka Ike had approached the court, alleging that Olayinka and INEC unlawfully published his personal data in the commission’s database. He sought N10 billion in damages, claiming that the alleged action caused him hardship.

The actor also asked the court to declare the defendants’ actions illegal and unconstitutional.

Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Salim Ibrahim, held that Ike had failed to establish his claims against the defendants with credible evidence.

The judge ruled that the plaintiff had not sufficiently demonstrated how his rights were violated, adding that his claims lacked merit.

Justice Ibrahim consequently dismissed the suit in favour of Olayinka and INEC. The court did not award costs but cautioned against filing frivolous cases that waste judicial time.
