The Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, Moses Sule, has been unseated by the state’s election petitions tribunal. The tribunal, sitting in Jos, nullified the election of the lawmaker, who secured his position on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket during the previous election.
Danjuma Azi, a representative of Jos North West constituency in the assembly, was also removed from office alongside the Speaker.
The tribunal declared Hon. Naanlong Daniel, the former majority leader of the house, and Hon. Mark Na’ah, both from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the rightful winners of the March 18 elections.
The petitioner had contested the legitimacy of Sule and Azi’s candidacies, arguing that the PDP lacked the necessary party structure to participate in the election.
In delivering the judgment, the tribunal, led by Muhammad Tukur, ruled that the PDP was not qualified to sponsor the respondents for the election due to the party’s lack of a valid structure. Tukur emphasized that “nothing can stand on nothing,” given the absence of a party structure.
