BREAKING: Court sends 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters to prison

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the detention of ten #EndBadGovernance protesters at Kuje Correctional Centre, pending a decision on their bail applications, which will be considered on September 11.

The 5th defendant, the sole female among the accused, has been directed to remain at Suleja Correctional Centre.

At the hearing, Abubakar Marshal, representing the 1st to 4th defendants, challenged their continued detention and requested bail.

He argued that bail is a discretionary matter and criticized the prosecution for not providing substantial evidence to support the treason charges.

Marshal also highlighted that bail applications can be made orally and requested that his clients be granted bail under lenient conditions.

Support for Marshal’s request came from Deji Adeyanju, counsel for the 6th to 8th defendants, as well as from lawyers representing the 5th, 9th, and 10th defendants.

In response, Prosecution Counsel Simon Lough insisted on the necessity of keeping the defendants in correctional facilities.

Following these arguments, Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the case until September 11.

The protesters have been held in police custody for nearly a month after their arrests at various locations across Nigeria, in connection with their calls for an end to hunger, corruption, and insecurity in the country.
