BREAKING: Creation of Apa State, others impossible under Tinubu – Ex-Senator, Sani
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has cautioned Nigerians pushing for the creation of additional states, saying President Bola Tinubu does not have the constitutional authority to unilaterally declare new states.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Friday, Sani described such agitations as a waste of time and resources, stressing that state creation is a complex constitutional process, not a matter of executive proclamation.
“People asking for the creation of new states should stop wasting their time and resources. They should learn to live with each other in peace,” he wrote. “Read the constitution to know the complications. It’s not something which the President will just proclaim or announce.”
His comment comes in the wake of reports that the House of Representatives has received formal requests for the creation of 46 new states across the country’s six geo-political zones.
