BREAKING: Dangote Refinery sacks all Nigerian workers just hours after unionization
The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all its Nigerian workers, less than 24 hours after the majority joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Political commentator Imran Wakili disclosed the development in a post on X, Wednesday, alleging that the mass dismissal was carried out under the guise of “reorganisation.”
According to a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, the company explained that the decision followed reported cases of sabotage in various units of the plant, prompting a “total re-organisation.”
The notice directed affected staff to return all company property to their line managers and obtain exit clearance, while the finance department was instructed to compute benefits and entitlements in line with their contracts.
In the memo, management expressed appreciation to the dismissed employees for their services.
The move comes amid a lingering trade dispute between the Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN over unionisation rights.
