The Edo State House of Assembly has issued an impeachment notice against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, a move widely speculated to be linked to his ongoing rift with Governor Godwin Obaseki, particularly following Shaibu’s recent loss in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary elections in the state.
Shaibu had previously voiced concerns about a purported scheme to impeach him, attributing it to his gubernatorial aspirations. Notably, he secured his candidacy through a parallel primary election held at his residence in Benin City, the state capital.
Meanwhile, Asue Ighodalo emerged victorious in another PDP primary held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
The embattled deputy governor revealed, “My team has informed me of ongoing discussions aimed at my impeachment, citing my perceived advancement in the political arena as the reason behind their actions. They assert that I have crossed certain boundaries.”
