Abuja, November 8, 2023 – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has adhered to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory’s order by bringing former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to court today.

Emefiele, who had been in the custody of federal government security agencies for over 150 days, was escorted to the courtroom by a contingent of EFCC operatives.

He was seen dressed in a yellow Babariga and a matching Hausa cap as he entered the courtroom at approximately 12:30.

A crowd of Emefiele’s friends and relatives gathered outside the court premises in anticipation of the hearing for his fundamental human rights suit. Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, the presiding judge, had reaffirmed his order on Monday, directing that the detained former CBN governor be presented in court on November 8 to consider granting him bail.

In the event that bail is not granted, Justice Adeniyi instructed the anti-graft agency to either grant bail to Emefiele independently or allow the court to do so, in accordance with the provisions of the law governing fundamental human rights.
