An official of Binance Holdings Limited, Tigran Gambaryan, is in court for allegations of tax evasion.
Gambaryan, alongside Nadeem Anjarwalla, who is currently on the run, is set to appear in the Federal High Court in Abuja today.
The case, marked as FHC/ABJ/CR/115/2024, accuses Binance of failing to register with the Federal Inland Revenue Service, thereby neglecting its tax responsibilities under the service’s jurisdiction.
Moreover, the FIRS claims that Binance provided taxable services to its trading platform subscribers but did not issue the necessary invoices. This failure to provide invoices hindered the determination and payment of the requisite value-added taxes.
Gambaryan was escorted to court by heavily armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, serving as the second defendant in the ongoing legal proceedings.
At present, the court proceedings are underway.
