Distinguished Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District, demands an immediate and unconditional release of his Constituent, Elijah Odeh, a young barber, held in Kano State over hairstyle alleged to be offensive to Islam.
Young Elijah, from Adum East, in Obi LGA, was arrested a few days ago by a group of Muslims over claim that the hairstyle he designed on two of his customers is insulting to Islam and Prophet Mohammed.
Elijah, being currently tried in Gyadi-Gyadi Magistrate Court sitting in Kano State, has been denied bail despite intervention efforts by the Governor of Benue State, H.E., Dr Samuel Ortom, and Governor Ganduje of Kano State.
Senator Moro says the arrest and continued incarceration of the young man is unacceptable, unconstitutional and an infringement on his rights to live and do business in any part of the country without molestation and harassment, he says no harm must come to him.
The Comrade-Senator says non of his Constituents will suffer unjustly anywhere, as long as he’s their Senator, and promises to follow up on this case, with all the seriousness it deserves, until justice is gotten for Elijah, who he believes has done nothing wrong in being creative and innovative.
