Protests have erupted in Enugu, the capital city of Coal City, following the State Government’s decision to seal businesses in the area. DAILY POST reported that the government took this action on Monday, closing numerous shops at the Ogbete Main Market for not opening on that day.
Governor Peter Mbah had previously banned the regular Monday sit-at-home, which was imposed by a faction of IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra), upon assuming office. Despite the government’s directive, many residents are still hesitant to comply, fearing potential attacks by hoodlums.
In response to non-compliance, government officials went from place to place, sealing various business establishments. The affected traders have been informed that they must meet specific conditions before their shops can be reopened.
This development has sparked protests among the traders at Ogbete Market. In a video that is currently trending, they can be seen marching through the city, expressing their discontent through angry chants.
