BREAKING: Ex-Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu is dead

Christian Chukwu, a revered figure in Nigerian football and former captain and head coach of the Super Eagles, has passed away at the age of 74.
The iconic footballer reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday. However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear at the time of this report.
His death was confirmed by longtime friend and former teammate, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami. Both were key members of Nigeria’s victorious 1980 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.
“I just received the news that between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my bosom friend and teammate, one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s history, has passed on,” Odegbami said. “Babuje, Emmanuel Okala, MON, shared the heartbreaking news with me just moments ago. May ‘Onyim’ find eternal peace with our Creator and may his family be comforted.”
Chukwu’s impact on Nigerian football is immeasurable. He captained the national team to their first-ever AFCON title in 1980 and went on to coach the Super Eagles in the early 2000s, further cementing his legacy in the sport.
