The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) executed the demolition of a notorious illegal market known as “Kasuwan Dare”.
This market had reportedly transformed into a suspected hub for hoodlums and illicit drug traders in the upscale Asokoro district of Abuja.
Situated on Hassan Musa Katsina Street, in close proximity to Kpaduma II within the extension of Asokoro, the market had become a source of increasing concern for residents and passersby.
Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control, expressed his views on the matter following the operation. Galadima conveyed that the unauthorized market had evolved into a looming peril for the safety of both inhabitants and those traversing the area. Despite unrelenting endeavors by the FCT Administration to rectify the situation, the space had degenerated into a hotbed of criminal activities.
Galadima emphasized that the activities of miscreants in the vicinity had not only deteriorated the overall ambiance but had also compromised security. He elucidated, “The operation will help us get rid of the hoodlums and drug dealers that have taken over the place. We had demolished the place about three times, but the nuisances rebuilt and continued their activities. This time around, the demolished market will remain demolished. We need to sanitize the place and enhance the aesthetic quality of the environment.”
