BREAKING: Former councilor killed by suspected herdsmen in Benue

Hon. Paul Mbatsaver Azahaan, a former councilor in Benue State, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Mbatsaver, who represented Nzorov Council Ward in Guma Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked late on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at his home in Tse Azahaan, Mbagen, Nzorov Council Ward. According to sources, the assailants stormed his residence during the night, leaving him dead.

The killing has plunged the community into grief and heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in rural parts of the state.

Residents described Mbatsaver as a well-known grassroots politician and are urging security agencies to carry out a swift investigation and bring the culprits to justice.

Police have yet to release an official statement on the incident, even as tensions remain high in the affected community amid fears of further attacks.
