A civil society organisation, under the aegis of the Idoma Youth for Equity and Justice (IYJE), has called for the immediate arrest of Usman Abubakar, otherwise known as Young Alhaji, the Benue South Senatorial candidate of the Advance Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) for allegedly ordering the security man attached to him to shoot at the vehicle of a young man, who over took their convoy on Tuesday, February 19.
The group in a statement Thursday morning described the act demonstrated by the senatorial candidate as “insane and height of political madness.”

The statement signed on behalf of the group by its secretary, Mr. Akor Joel Ogboji, said “it’s unfortunate that someone who wants to represent the people would order a police officer to shoot at someone who over takes his vehicle.
“That is nothing but a show of shame, a display of political madness and insanity.
“Now he is yet to be a senator and he is acting like this, what will happen if he wins? It is obvious our community is not safe with a leader like Abubakar.
“We have hundreds of eyewitnesses who saw his orderly shooting sporadically at the vehicle of the young man who he allegedly accused of over taking him.
“What is even wrong with someone over taking his convoy? From our findings, he and his group used the wrong lane which caused an unnecessary grid lock around the rail way crossing at living Faith Church junction,” he said.
Mr. Ogboji went further to urge the police to take the issue up by arresting the senatorial candidate for the unlawful act, as failure to do that would lead to a mass protest.
“Since nobody is above the law, the police should do the needful by arresting him and using him as an example before the general public.
“We have obtained the video where Mr. Abubakar was begging and making peace after the incident.
“Unnecessary intimidation of our youths will no longer be accepted. The other day, The APC chairman from Ohimini, late Mr. Boniface Okloho was murdered in this same town by a yet-to-be-identified individual(s). Violence during election period must be stopped as Idoma nation is not known for bloodshed,” he added.
