Irate Youth in Jalingo, Taraba state capital on Saturday evening broke into one of the Taraba state government warehouses located opposite CAN Secretariat, carting away various food items.
Our Reporter who was at the scene of the incident at about 6.30pm Saturday noted that hundreds of people were seen gaining access to the warehouse and we’re moving with different good items including noodles, salt, maize and others valuable food items.
IDOMA VOICE however noted that there is the possibility of several casualties as people were struggling to either enter or exit the narrow entrance to the warehouse while others were seen jumping through the fence to grab their shares.
A youth, name withheld told our reporter that the government was not fair to the masses by keeping the tons of food items rotten while the poor continue to die of hunger.
“It is very unfortunate that these large quantities of food items which were supposed to be shared to the less privileged as palliative for Covid-19 are kept in the warehouses left to rotten.”
He said that they were not hoodlums but people who have come to take what is rightly meant for them.
When contacted, the special Adviser to Governor Ishaku on media and publicity, Mr. Bala Dan Abu confirmed the incident without further explanation.
Meanwhile, when our correspondent contacted, Mr. Danazumi Novalga, permanent Secretary SEMA, he simply replied “I have retired and I am no longer in charge of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).”
As at the time of filling this report, the looting of the food items continued unabated.
