The House of Representatives is currently holding a valedictory session for the 9th House, marking the conclusion of their term. Former speakers, Ghali Na’Abbas and Patricia Etteh, are in attendance at the session.
In his final speech, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila praised the efforts of the lawmakers over the past four years, highlighting the successful passage of significant legislations such as the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), Electoral Act, and others.
Gbajabiamila expressed regret over the 9th House’s inability to pass several bills related to women’s issues, which were rejected in 2022. He urged the incoming House to tackle the challenge of passing gender-related bills.
It should be noted that Gbajabiamila has been appointed as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
The next Assembly is scheduled to be inaugurated on Tuesday.
