Hundreds of inmates have escaped from the Imo State correctional centre, Owerri, on Monday, after unknown hoodlums set the centre ablaze.
It was gathered that the hoodlums took advantage of the the festivity period and stormed the center in the wee hours of Easter Monday, shooting sporadically before bombing the centre.
It was also gathered that Owerri residents and commuters who ply the Okigwe road were panicking as calmness was yet to return to the area.
Efforts by newsmen to get police report proved abortive as a spokesman of the Imo State Police Command was unreachable as at the time of filing this report.
