The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has firmly stated his commitment to overseeing the completion of the investigation into former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. In a bold declaration, he asserted that he would resign if he did not personally oversee this process.
According to a report, Olukoyede disclosed that he directly reached out to Yahaya Bello via phone, as a gesture of respect, urging him to appear before the commission to address the charges against him. Regrettably, the former Kogi governor declined the invitation.
Speaking to journalists at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja’s Jabi area, Olukoyede stressed the significance of Nigerians’ support for the EFCC in its anti-corruption endeavors, emphasizing that the agency’s success is vital for the nation’s reputation.
He highlighted the positive outcomes of the EFCC’s ongoing initiatives, which have contributed to the strengthening of the Naira and enhancement of the foreign market.
The EFCC aims to arraign Bello on 19 counts of alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds amounting to N80.2 billion. Olukoyede pledged to prosecute Bello diligently and hold accountable all those who impede his arrest.
He reaffirmed the EFCC’s unwavering determination to cleanse the country of corruption, undeterred by any form of opposition or challenges.
