The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, has emerged victorious over the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, at Governor Godwin Obaseki’s polling unit.
At polling unit PU19, Ward 04, Oredo Local Government Area, the PDP secured 127 votes, while the APC garnered 35. The Labour Party (LP) finished third with 11 votes.
Governor Obaseki had openly endorsed Ighodalo as his successor throughout the campaign season.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started uploading results from the September 21 governorship election onto its Result Viewing Portal. At the time of this report, 205 out of 4,519 polling unit results had been uploaded.
Edo’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, earlier confirmed that the election results would be transmitted electronically. He stated that only poor network coverage could hinder this process, but assured that INEC had provided 660 backup Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS) to ensure smooth operations. The BVAS will also be used to accredit voters and track participation at polling units.
