The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken the unprecedented step of annulling elections in 67 polling units in Kogi State’s Ogori-Magongo local government area.
This was prompted by fervent objections from Magongo community residents. Their outcry stemmed from apparent pre-filled results on the election sheets, despite the non-commencement of accreditation and voting procedures at these polling sites.
A source closely following the unfolding situation relayed to SaharaReporters that INEC had indeed canceled the elections. The outcry was of such magnitude that it led INEC officials to cease their operations entirely in every polling unit across Ogori-Magongo.
Earlier reports from SaharaReporters highlighted the uproar among residents of Magongo within the Ogori-Magongo local government area. These citizens vehemently protested the premature documentation of results on the election sheets, emphasizing that neither the accreditation nor the voting process had initiated.
At the Magongo Registration Area Centre (RAC), irate residents expressed their discontent. They accused INEC officials, allegedly in collusion with representatives from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of clandestinely recording results for various polling units even before the scheduled start of the elections. This starkly contrasts with the pledged commitment to a free and fair election process.
Allegations emerged suggesting that pre-determined results for select polling units showed the APC with an assigned 120 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) were purportedly allotted a mere single vote each, despite the elections not yet officially commencing.
