BREAKING: Judge orders Nnamdi Kanu thrown out of courtroom
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday directed security operatives to remove Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu from the courtroom after he insisted that no judgment could be delivered in his terrorism trial.
The action came after Kanu repeatedly challenged the court, demanding to know where it was legally stated that he was not entitled to file a written address in his case. His persistent interruptions led the judge to temporarily suspend proceedings to allow security personnel to escort him out.
Despite the disruption, Justice Omotosho proceeded to deliver a ruling dismissing several fresh motions filed by Kanu, noting that the issues raised had already been addressed earlier in the trial.
The court rejected Kanu’s request to refer the matter to the Court of Appeal, citing Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, which prohibits the stay of proceedings in criminal matters. His application for bail was also denied, although the judge stated that some points from Kanu’s motions would be considered during the judgment.
As the judge began reading the verdict, Kanu continued to protest, asserting that the court had no authority to proceed.
